Glycemic index is the measure of the quantity of carbohydrate that gets added in to the blood level of a person. If the food is adding more of it, it is high in glycemic index and is highly potential of damaging our body metabolism. Living on this kind of food makes us prone to weight gain.

High glycemic index represents the significant increase in blood sugar level and thus causes plenty of health problems. Food item with high glycemic index gets broken down quickly in our digestive system however, foods with low glycemic index break down slowly, which implies that high glycemic index food gets quickly absorbed in our body thus more number of calorie is eaten up.

One must avoid consuming the food items having high glycemic index as these causes a greater risk of heart diseases, obesity, and high blood pressure. For a diabetic patient a low glycemic index food is highly recommended

The insulin instantly takes action on the extra glucose thereby decreasing the blood sugar level even below the normal level. Thus after sometime when we again feel hungry, a cycle starts developing and this leads to obesity and diabetes.

Since the low index glycemic food doesn’t break down easily, it gives us a feeling of having our stomach full. A low index glycemic diet also helps us in losing weight.

Low glycemic index food keeps you fuller for long time. They also significantly increase your physical stamina and provide a slower, stable increase in blood sugar level.
