Weight Loss: Minimum Daily Calorie intake

By Cindy • Category: Weight Loss

To know what daily calories one needs, one must consult a dietitian or nutritionist.

Calorie intake has to be reducing pattern in order to lose weight but how much calorie restriction one must begin with is important to judge. People generally choose to follow a very low calorie intake diet thinking that more fat in their system will be burned.

Over time our bodies adapt to the lowered calorie level. Our body becomes more efficient at using energy (lowered metabolism), and therefore tends to burn less fat.

This is why most of us reach a weight loss plateau. At this point, the only option is to boost metabolism.

Continually dropping calories only serves to lower metabolism even further - the moment you return to ‘normal’ eating - the weight comes back on.

Minimum Daily Calorie intake
It is difficult to know low calorie levels, because everyone has different body composition and activity levels. General levels are 1200 calories per day for women and 1800 calories per day for men.

One must try not to lower your calorie intake by more than 1000 calories . Cause this may invoke body’s starvation.

It is advisable to gradually lower the calories. A sudden drop can cause your metabolism to slow. Metabolic rate will begin to drop after few days of very low calories. Sensible weight loss for you must start with a 500 calorie intake reduction from what the body requires, then if progress halts for a week or so calorie intake can be reduced by a further 200 calories.
