Understanding Metabolism

By Total Diet • Category: Weight Loss

Metabolism is the means by which the body derives energy and synthesizes the other molecules it needs from the fats, carbohydrates and proteins we eat as food, by enzymatic reactions helped by minerals and vitamins.

Metabolism is a constant process that begins when we’re conceived and ends when we die. It is a vital process for all life forms. If metabolism stops, a living thing would die.

Specific proteins in the body control the chemical reactions of metabolism, and each chemical reaction is coordinated with other body functions. In fact, thousands of metabolic reactions happen at the same timeĀ  all regulated by the body to keep our cells healthy and working.

Low calorie dieting slows your metabolism, making it progressively more difficult to lose weight and keep it off. So to increase the metabolism always eat breakfast. If you wait until mid morning or afternoon to eat, so your metabolism would run slow.

The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc.

To Increase metabolism and lose fats one must do following:
1. Eat smaller meals through the day to increase the metabolism . Atleast 4 to 6 times eat small meals , 2 to 3 hours apart.
2. Don’t depend on herbal products to increase metabolism or energy level. Any metabolic increase will be minimum and herbs are not cheap. Instead, include more energy foods such as whole grains, beans, vegetablesĀ  , fruits and cereals. Eating healthy snacks will also increase metabolism.
3. Walking routine to increase metabolism, atleast three to four times a week for 30 to 40 minutes walk each times. This is the best way to increase metabolism and exercise daily.
4. Don’t starve yourself when trying to lose weight. This will slow down your metabolism in a hurry. Avoid 5 to 6 hour gaps between meals without eating.
5. As with food, depriving your body of water can encourage it to “hoard” rather than “burn”. In order to encourage your liver to focus on metabolism rather than water retention, make sure you drink an appropriate amount of water. Atleast 8 to 10 glasses of water daily.
6. Do more activities around the house to burn energy instead of wasting money on pills and potions that don’t work.
7. To avoid alcohol , fasting and sugar .
8. Take apple cider vinegar and honey and garlic. It is a good for increasing metabolism.
Some of the causes for low metabolism are as follows:
1. To take a low calorie diet.
2. Sometimes people miss meals or keep fast.
3. Intake of too much sugar containing food like cakes, gum, colas and candy.
4. Lack of physical activity .
5. Under active thyroid.
