South Beach Diet

Most people are sick of trying new diets for one reason, cause they do not work. What makes the South Beach Diet different is that it teaches a way of life where you rely on the right carbohydrates and fats.

This new way of eating allows you to live contently without eating the bad carbohydrates and fats. In contrast, when a person eats bad carbohydrates and fats they feel hungrier, causing them to eat more, which causes weight gain.

In exchange for eating right, you become healthier and can enjoy an 8 to 13 pound weight loss in just two weeks. This diet focuses on a healthy balance between carbs and fats .Highly processed foods like baked good, sweat and soft drinks will be highly off limit.

The fundamentals of phases :

The South Beach diet divided into three different phases. All three phases include specific allowable foods, meals plans and recipes.

Phase 1 : South Beach phase 1, lasts for two weeks, during this time many foods are prohibited which will result in weight loss in most people. In this phase most carbohydrates such as rice, pasta and breads must be avoided. There are three meals a day and snacks. Meats,shellfish, chicken, turkey and fish are all on the menu along with nuts, cheese, eggs,salads and vegetables.

Phase 2 : This second phase includes specific meal plans and recipes. It reintroduces some of the foods avoided in Phase 1.In this phase weight loss should be in the region of 1-2 pounds per week. The second phase of the South Beach Diet is excellent. It reintroduces whole carbohydrates along with good fats and lean proteins. It teaches you how to make good food choices, and how to satisfy your hunger.

Phase 3 : The third phase is about living the lifestyle more than a phase its about eating healthy foods and maintaining weight. I’m really not quite sure of the need of this phase. The foods appear no different than Phase 2.

How does the South Beach Diet work:
The South Beach Diet is split into three phases. Each phase becomes more relaxed in terms of what you can and cannot eat. Because of this a person on the South Beach Diet will normally lose weight at a faster rate while at an earlier phase than a later phase. However, no one wants to be permanently on a strict diet and indeed this is often the reason why many diets fail. Because of this, only phase one is this “strict” and lasts only for two weeks. To maintain a healthy weight the dieter may move between the different phases.

South Beach Diet is not only for people who wish to lose weight. Studies have shown that the diet can help to reduce cholesterol as well as decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
