Low carb diet

Carbohydrates are compounds which consist hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. These compounds are linked together by energy-containing bonds. There are two types of carbohydrates. These are the complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates. The complex carbohydrates such as fiber and starch are also known as the polysaccharides. The simple carbohydrates are called either monosaccharides (one sugar molecule) or disaccharides (two sugar molecules). Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose in the digestive tract. Glucose is the body’s primary source of fuel and it also provides energy for the body cells and tissues.

Low Carbohydrate Diets

All foods are made up of three primary macro nutrients, carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Low carb means that the percentage of carbohydrate is low. The following diets are classified as low carbohydrate diets. These diets are made up of small or no carbs. Some are moderate carb. Examples of low carbohydrate diets are as follows:

  • Hampton’s Diet – this diet emphasizes more on healthier fats (e.g. macadamia nuts)

  • Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet – a very much low card diet
  • Doctor Whitaker Diet – based on a high protein and low carbohydrate diet combined with regular exercise.
  • Stout Flush – has the same macro-nutrient ratios as the Zone diet
  • Stout Burning Diet – dieters can cycle between high car and low carb days.
  • Idiot Proof Diet – a diet with three phases that resembles the Atkin’s diet
  • Lifestyle Cut Diet – a low carb diet with small frequent meals that promotes burning stout
  • New York Diet – a very strict low carb diet
  • No Grain Diet – a very lo carb diet which requires dieters to eliminate all grain, potatoes, sweets and sugar consumption

Low Carbohydrates Recipes

Low carbohydrate diets or low carb diets are diets that restrict carbohydrate consumption. Instead of consuming foods high in carbohydrates, it is replaced by increased proteins or fats consumption. A lot of people had been using low carb diet and Banting since the 19th century.

Low carb diets differ by the recommended proportion of carb intake and methods of which source of carbohydrates should be consumed and which source of carbohydrates should be avoided. In general, vegetables are better than fruits and fruits are better than grains. In low carb diets, all processed sugar should be eliminated, if not, reduced. For low carbohydrate recipes, it is best to consult dieticians and nutritionists.
